What Is the Christ Candle?

John 1:14 β€œThe Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”

Not surprisingly, the Christ candle represents Christ and the role he plays in the Christmas story. Jesus brought light into the world through his arrival on earth as a baby.

Christ connects all the Advent candles. Through him, we can have hope, peace, joy, and love. Without him, why have any of those things? Christ steps down into darkness to light the world (John 8:12). Because of him, we can be a light unto others, showing them the true meaning of Christmas.

Take a moment to thank the Lord for the gift of Jesus. Until He returns, we will expectantly wait in hope, be surrounded by His peace, live in joy, and share His love. Amen

Here is a practical and meaningful way to share with your family on Christmas Eve.

Preparation: You will need an unlit candle for each person in the room(to be used later). Darken the room except for the tree or the fireplace. Light your Advent Candles or a large candle representing the Lord Jesus. Gather together around the Christ candle.

Declaration: Have someone in your family read the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-20

Adoration(Drawing Near): Have someone in your family pray to invite the Lord Jesus to come and be present with you in this time and space.

Sharing(The gift of Love): Each person in turn will light their candle from the Christ candle. As they do so, they will go around the room and share a reason they love each person in the room.

Rejoicing: Sing a favourite Christmas carol together

Remembering: As each person blows out their candle they should take a moment with the Lord to thank Him for the gift of Christmas. Ask the Lord for a special word or picture or what He might be saying to you this season.
